Itinerary summary

Day 1 • Saturday • Say hello to Cuba!

  • Arrival at Havana’s José Martí International Airport.
  • Collect your luggage and proceed through Cuban customs to the arrivals lobby.
  • Consider purchasing Cuban Convertible Pesos at the airport exchange bureau (CADECA), or later at your hotel.
  • Our airport concierge or your tour guide will arrange tour bus or private taxi transfers from the airport to your Hotel NH Capri located in El Vedado, the heart of Havana's cultural district.
  • Hotel check-in is pre-arranged – just present your passport.
  • Enjoy a welcome cocktail, then settle in and freshen up.
  • Group arrival dinner with your guide and tourmates at hotel.
  • Evening entertainment options: Groove to live jazz, relax in a lounge, or revel in a dicey dance show near your hotel.

Day 2 • Sunday • Getting to know Old Havana

  • Greet the day with tasty breakfast served at your hotel.
  • Get ready for a ride to the landmark Morro Castle in 1950s American vintage automobiles. Followed by a guided tour of Cuba’s recently restored majestic Capitolio.
  • Next is a guided walking tour of Old Havana and its four historic plazas. We'll visit the UNESCO World Heritage sites that make Havana unique in the western hemisphere. Together they contain the most extensive collection of remaining Spanish colonial-era architecture in the world: the 18th-century Cathedral Square, the Catedral de San Cristóbal de la Habana, the ancient military parade ground Plaza de Armas, and 17th century Plaza Vieja, the only civic square of colonial times.
  • Lunch at El Rum Rum restaurant. In Cuba, eating establishments are full of rum (the vital ingredient for mojitos) and rum rum (local term for gossip). And gossip we must, because El Rum Rum is the talk of Habana Vieja paying homage to seafood, Spanish gastronomy, cigars and throat-warming shots of the hard stuff.
  • Return to hotel and freshen up.
  • Group welcome dinner at the private restaurant Mojito Mojito. Ideally situated near Plaza Vieja, its friendly atmosphere, fantastic food, and terrific mojitos gives it top ranking on TripAdvisor

Day 3 • Monday • Viñales Valley, land of the gods

  • Greet the day with tasty breakfast served at your hotel.
  • Early departure to Viñales Valley, an idyllic mountaintop hamlet in the heart of Cuba's premier tobacco growing region. The town sits in the center of an expansive valley surrounded by stunning karst hills formations known locally as mogotes. Mogotes are irregularly shaped steep-sided hills that can rise as a thousand feet, and have bases ranging from just a few hundred yards in diameter to as much as a couple of kilometers in width.
  • Lunch at an organic farm known as Finca Paraiso. All of its menu item ingredients are organic and farm fresh.
  • We’ll hike the fields of this organic farm and learn how the family reclaimed a rocky mountainside to grow vegetables, herbs, and exotic fruit trees.
  • Tour a privately owned small tobacco farm that produces rarified leaves for Cuban’s world-renowned cigars. Meet the owners, a third generation women who operate the farm using horses and oxen. They’ll give a personal demonstration of how hand rolled Habano cigars are created.
  • Boat ride through the heart of Cueva del Indio [Indian cave]. Float on the underground river that runs through this vast cavern. You'll get an awesome view of the monster stalactites and stalagmites lining the interior of this mogote.
  • Check-in to your Hotel Central in Viñales.
  • Time to relax and freshen up for the evening.
  • Dinner not included in tour cost. It’s an occasion to sample Havana’s stellar private eateries and taste the diversity of the island’s distinctive cuisines. We’ll provide suggestions for restaurants most popular with Cubans and our travelers.

Day 4 • Tuesday • Cayo Levisa, tropical island spendor

  • Greet the day with tasty breakfast served at your hotel.
  • Cayo Levisa. Early morning escape to a tiny island rimmed with coconut trees and mangroves, home to endemic bird species. Sink your feet into the island’s smooth white sands, or venture into the warm waters to explore the pristine coral reefs. Enjoy snorkeling (included), or optional scuba diving. Essential. You must have a scuba certificate for this activity.
  • Along Cayo Levisa’s two-and-a-half miles of beach, there are 23 diving spots. Offshore you'll see sponges, rare black coral, myriad species of tropical fish, and the remains of Spanish galleons shipwrecked during the 17th and 18th centuries.
  • A traditional island lunch is included.
  • Return to your hotel in Viñales, time to freshen up for the evening.
  • Dinner tonight is included at Yuri y Nino private restaurant.
  • Think about taking in some of Viñales local nightlife! Your guide can suggest venues.

  • Special hit for thrill-seekers: ziplining in Viñales Valley, included.
  • Lunch is included at private restaurant Balcón del Valle.
  • Return to your Havana hotel.
  • Check-in, relax and freshen up for the evening.
  • Dinner not included in tour cost. It’s an occasion to sample Havana’s stellar private eateries and taste the diversity of the island’s distinctive cuisines. We’ll provide suggestions for restaurants most popular with Cubans and our travelers.
